SunWatts review: what the company says and what buyers report
A fair read of the public record: the company's own policies, the ratings sites, and what buyers say in public threads. Every claim links to its source, and we do not score stores.

We are not SunWatts and are not affiliated with it. We do not rank or score stores. We report what the company says, what rating sites display, and what buyers wrote in public, with a link for each, and leave the judgement to you.
Who they are
SunWatts, Inc. sells solar kits, panels, inverters, batteries and mounting hardware, and also offers design and installation services. Its Mission page calls it a family-run Ohio corporation, says it has been advising buyers since 2007, and gives a headquarters at 2501 West 3rd Street, Cleveland, with a sales office in northern California. On October 2, 2026 its site had a product page for the EG4 LifePOWER4 48V 100Ah battery, among other EG4 listings.
The company is clearly set up for system buyers, not only for single parts: much of its site is about kits and design. For how EG4 batteries work in a system, see our battery comparison and the LifePower4 page.
What the company's own policies say
These are the company's pages as they read on October 2, 2026. None is dated, so read the current version before you order.
- Returns. The policy says returns are accepted for exchange or store credit within 7 calendar days of delivery, with the original sales receipt, and only for items in "new, unaltered and unused" condition: not installed, working, with no signs of wear, and not a special or custom order. It says that after 7 days no returns are allowed, though it may offer an exchange or store credit at its sole discretion. Items judged to be in working condition carry a restocking fee of 35 to 50 percent, and the customer pays all shipping. Items noted on their own listing as non-returnable, or with a different return period, follow that listing instead.
- Shipping and freight. The shipping page says solar panels generally require freight shipping on pallets, many products including most kits have flat-rate shipping, other items are calculated at checkout, and some items ship free. It says the buyer should inspect on arrival and write "DAMAGE" on the bill of lading or receipt, and that the company will not be held liable for freight damage or replacement expenses; damage claims go to the carrier and the company says it will help. It asks to be told within 72 hours, with photos.
- Warranty. Products are covered by the full manufacturer's warranty, and the page points buyers to the product's own warranty certificate for the claims process. Separately, the site terms say the site and its materials are provided "as is" and that SunWatts disclaims warranties on the site itself.
- Payment and disputes. The terms say card, PayPal, wire transfer and other methods are subject to verification and may be limited to $5,000 per order, and that a signed authorization form, a copy of the card and photo ID may be required above $700. They also say that in a payment or order dispute the buyer agrees to binding arbitration at the company's sole discretion and will not make a chargeback or dispute claim. The terms are governed by Ohio law. We quote the clauses and offer no legal opinion on them.
- Support. The Contact page invites calls seven days a week at 888-498-3331, or a form.
Compare these with the questions in our buying guide. Two items deserve a second read before a large order: the 7-day window with a restocking fee, and the dispute clause.
The EG4 listing we opened
The EG4 LifePOWER4 page showed, on October 2, 2026, an availability line of "SHIPS 1 - 2 WEEKS," a fixed shipping cost, and a sale label reading "ORDER BY JUNE 1." The page also lists a 10-year product warranty in its description, as written by the company. The date on the sale label was already past on the day we read it, so confirm the live price and terms with the company before ordering.
What the rating sites show
| Site | As displayed on Oct 2, 2026 | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Trustpilot | No reviews yet | The profile is unclaimed. |
| BBB | Not found | We could not locate a BBB profile for SunWatts, Inc. on the pages we could open, so we show no BBB figure. |
The company's own Customer Reviews page carries testimonials, among them a Connecticut customer describing a self-installed 20 kW ground array and a Florida customer describing a 15 kW project. These are selected by the company and we treat them as marketing, not as a rating. We did not check Google reviews, Yelp or Reddit.
What buyers say in public threads
Public discussion of this seller on DIY Solar Forum is sparse. The posts below are individual accounts, not a representative sample.
Neutral or positive
A buyer who posted in January 2025 wrote that the product was fine and that the self-installation went fine; he is a union electrician and called it plug and play.
Complained about
The same buyer reported that rails were missing from his delivery and that he was told to chase the shipping company himself, and that he had to pay extra for engineered drawings his village required. He said he would not buy from the company again because of his dealings with one support employee.
Other posts in the threads concern how little was publicly known about the seller. In a September 2020 thread a prospective buyer wrote that he could not find independent reviews, and another poster wrote that its prices were higher than at a competitor he had used. In February 2024 a poster compared product descriptions on the site with images and wrote that some "bifacial" panels showed a white backsheet; another noted the site gave no registered or physical address, though the Mission page now lists a Cleveland address.
Questions to ask this seller before you order
- Is the sale price and ship date on my EG4 item current, and will you confirm both in the order email?
- Does the 35 to 50 percent restocking fee apply to my order if the unit works but I change my mind?
- If my unit arrives dead or damaged, do you exchange it or do I deal with the manufacturer or the carrier?
- Does the "no chargeback" language in the terms apply to my card order, and will you put your answer in writing?
- What is the exact freight cost and delivery method for my address, and what happens on a missed delivery?
- Do any parts, such as rails, ship separately, and can I see a packing list before shipment?
Good to know
Because the return window is 7 days, plan your electrical design and unpack and check the equipment as soon as it arrives. Installation of batteries and inverters needs a licensed electrician and a check against local code. Keep a copy of the product page and the policy text as they read on the day you order, since none of them is dated.
What we did not check
BBB, Google reviews, Yelp, Reddit, whether any product listings carry their own return terms, and any relationship between the company and EG4. Ratings and policies change: follow the links for today's versions.
Questions people ask
Is SunWatts legit?
The public record we could open shows a company that describes itself as a family-run Ohio corporation operating since 2007, with a Cleveland address and a phone line staffed seven days a week by its own account. Trustpilot showed no reviews on October 2, 2026, and we could not open a BBB profile. The public buyer threads we found are few and mixed. We do not issue a verdict on stores.
Does SunWatts sell EG4?
Yes. On October 2, 2026 its own site had a product page for the EG4 LifePOWER4 48V 100Ah battery, with other EG4 batteries listed as related products. The listing we opened showed a fixed shipping cost and an availability line of one to two weeks; confirm both before you order.
What is the SunWatts return policy?
According to its return policy on October 2, 2026: exchange or store credit only, within 7 calendar days of delivery, for items that are new, uninstalled and unused; returns judged to be in working condition carry a 35 to 50 percent restocking fee, and the buyer pays all shipping. The policy says items noted as non-returnable or special orders are excluded.
Can I dispute a charge with my card company after buying from SunWatts?
The company's terms say that if a payment or order dispute cannot be resolved, the buyer agrees to binding arbitration at SunWatts' sole discretion and will not make a chargeback or dispute claim. We report the clause as written and do not offer a legal opinion on it; read the current terms and ask the company how it applies to your order.
Who is responsible for freight damage?
The shipping page says the buyer should note damage on the delivery receipt, and that the company is not liable for freight damage or replacement costs; claims go to the carrier, with the company's help, and the company asks to be notified within 72 hours with photos.
